Really, your friendly Health Care providers are very scared right now. It seems people are swinging towards this "public option." And since failure is NOT AN OPTION, we are stuck in the gallows of yester-year, a place where archaic ad campaigns featuring "Harry & Louise" will somehow take tread. OH GOODY, right?
Here it is:
Financial industry and other business groups are considering running "Harry and Louise"-style ads to sway public opinion against the Obama administration's proposed Consumer Financial Products Agency.
Surely this means we are all doomed. If a multi-billion dollar industry is going back to such pathetic ideas as this, they will never beat the hordes of people that are dying or suffering everyday from an inability to keep up with the cost of paying for the "bottom line," which is what we really should be concerned with when considering our options in sickness.
What is with these sick people not helping the economy? If somebody has cancer, and needs to seek medical attention to live a happy, industrious life, why are they draining hundreds or maybe even A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS from the company they have provided thousands of dollars over a possible 10-20-30 years to? What of that? Yes, this will not stand. BRING OUT THE HARRY--- AND THE LOUISE:
The original Harry and Louise television spot, financed by the insurance industry, helped defeat the Clinton health plan in the early 1990s. In the commercial, a middle-class married couple laments they are worse off under the new health-care regime, describing it as a bureaucratic nightmare.
The spot struck a chord with voters. Financial industry lobbyists hope the same strategy will turn middle America away from the consumer agency, which is gaining momentum in Washington. The agency would have oversight over all credit products, including mortgages, credit cards and auto loans.
While many may consider this tactic downright fucking evil, it is "struck a chord with consumers," so you know we can look forward to another fantastic 50 years of fully privatized, hardly regulated medicine.
To reiterate the point, we now present to you this magical video of Ronald Reagan spouting off (as only he can) before he allegedly fell into extreme Alzheimer's at some point before 1979, although we may never know the exact moment.
And that is how our Nation cares for it's sick. This PRIVATE THING is working out swimmingly. As long as those Socialist bastards don't move in, we have nothing to worry about.
While most of the developed world may disagree with this notion, WE ARE AMERICA, and they Denmark, Switzerland, England, France, Canada etc. are just suffering, everyday, from all the terrible problems they face. May we never umm, BE LIKE THEM.
